T20 World Cup News

The ICC World Cup T20 commenced on Thursday by the formal opening of the gala event by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through a pompous inauguration ceremony. The declaration of the ceremony was made by the Prime Minister and the chief patron of the meet from a VVIP pavilion set at the southwest side of the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
In her speech presented at the opening ceremony Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that cricket is a popular and exciting game for the youth. She also recalled that during tenure of Awami League government Bangladesh clinched on to the ICC trophy back in 1997, and also participated the World Cup for the first time in 1999, and was awarded test status in 2000. And also had the opportunity to host the World Cup in 2011 for the first time.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also whole heartedly welcomed the players, ICC officials and guests and hoped that they will enjoy their stay in Bangladesh during the ICC T20 World Cup.
Other than Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikdar, BCB Nazmul Hasan Papon delivered a welcome speech during the inauguration ceremony.
The inauguration ceremony officially began at around 6.40 pm with the singing of the National Anthem, performed by a group from Chayanat.
After the welcome speech, spectators in the stadium were enthralled by a extraordinary presentation of fireworks.
The program was later followed by the performance of renowned Indian musician AR Rahman and his team which included other prominent Indian artists. After that R&B superstar Akon performed live on stage.
Apart from the participation of international musicians the ceremony also included performances of popular Bangladeshi singers which included Runa Laila, Sabina Yasmin, Kumar Biswajit, Ayub Bacchu, Mamtaz, Miles and Ornob.
The match of the ICC T20 World Cup will officially begin from 16th of March and will last till 6th April. Teams from 16 countries will be participating in the tournament.
